The Invisible Load Audit

All the work nobody sees you doing, laid out in one place. Then a look at what it is actually costing you.

You have been told you are tired because you are not sleeping enough, not eating right, not managing your time. So you tried the sleep hygiene and the supplements and the cold showers, and you are still wiped out.

Here is what none of that accounts for. Your nervous system is running a second full-time job underneath the visible one, and it never clocks off. This audit makes that hidden work visible. You tick the things you do, most of them without ever counting them as doing anything, and then it shows you the overdraft you have been living in.

It takes about ten minutes and there are no right answers. Nothing is saved and nothing is sent anywhere, which is the whole point, it is yours and nobody else's. That does mean your answers only live on this page, so if you close it or refresh they are gone. There is a button at the end to download your result, so grab that before you leave and you get to keep it for good.

The masking cost

The performance. Managing how you land, second by second.

The sensory cost

The environment. Everything your body is filtering and bracing against.

The executive function cost

The effort of doing things your brain was never wired to do on demand.

Tick everything you do

Do not overthink it. If you recognise yourself in it, tick it. If you only do it sometimes and it still costs you, tick it.

Now the other side

When you are running low, these are the things people reach for. Tick the ones you actually do to feel better or top yourself back up.

This is why you are so fucking tired

invisible loads you carry, most days, without anyone seeing a single one of them.

Your capacity overdraft

One side is everything draining you. The other is the recovery that genuinely refills you. Not the stuff that only looks like rest. The real thing.

The stuff that looks like rest

You ticked these as things you do to refill. This is the uncomfortable part. They are not refilling you, and a few of them are adding to the drain while pretending not to.

Rest is not the same as recovery

This is what standard advice keeps missing. Rest, recovery and rebuilding are three different things, and most of what you do lands in the first one.

Rest is stopping. Sitting down, closing your eyes, collapsing on the sofa. It is necessary and it is not nothing, but it does not put anything back. Recovery is the stuff that actively refills you, and for an AuDHD nervous system that usually means unmasking, low sensory load, no demands and no performing. Rebuilding capacity is the long game, the slow work of stopping the drain at the source so the overdraft has a chance to close.

If your side of genuine recovery came up short, that is not a personal failing. It is what happens when you have been running on permanent overdraft for years and calling it coping. You cannot rest your way out of a system that is haemorrhaging capacity faster than you can put it back.

Where to go from here

No pressure and no rush. If this landed though and you want to keep pulling the thread, there are two ways to carry on. Pick whichever one is actually calling you.

The rest of the series

This is one of five webinars, and each one takes a different part of the AuDHD experience apart. Executive function and the shame stuck to it, supporting the people who love you, the masking you are still doing without clocking it, and your sensory profile. Have a look and pick the ones that sound like you.

The Reclaim Your SELF Hub

This tool showed you the size of the overdraft. Closing it is slow work and it is far easier alongside people who get it. That is what the Hub is. Monthly Focus Sessions, the Bring a Brew calls and a community doing the same rebuilding work. It is where you stop being this tired.
